Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

Year round comfort

Ducted reverse cycle air conditioning is the ultimate in home comfort.  Every room can be temperature controlled via ducting to the main unit.  Motorized zones can be used to shut off sections as required thus reducing energy consumption.  Domestic reverse cycle units are available in a range of sizes from 6.7kW single phase up to 36kW three phase.

How it works

Air is drawn up through a return air grille centrally located in the house, the same air is supplied through vents located in the extremities of the rooms. This supply air is usually about 10 degrees cooler or warmer than the air sucked into the system.

Choosing the right system.

Our experienced consultants will perform a 'heat load' calculation on your home to determine your requirements.  By using zoning to switch off areas of your home that aren't being  used at a particular point in time we can use a smaller unit than would be required to heat or cool the whole house.  The living areas of a house (lounge, kitchen, family rooms etc..) account for about two thirds of the typical heat load requirements for a house.

Key Benefits

  •  Usable all seasons
  •  Air conditioned comfort throughout the whole house
  •  Minimal visual impact

  •  Most efficient form of heating
  •  The most desirable form of air conditioning - will add value to your home
  •  Minimal noise

What is an inverter?

An inverter unit has a variable speed compressor which allows the unit to run continuously at a lower power consumption instead of cycling on and off.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q.    Why not dispense with the zones and use a machine big enough to do the whole house?

A.    The reason we use zoning is to save on electricity consumption.  Bigger machines mean higher running costs and higher electricity bills.

Q.    Why is reverse cycle better for cooling than evaporative systems?

A.    Evaporatives do not work during high humidity as the temperature of the air coming out of an evaporative system is related to the temperature of the air outside.  Reverse cycle systems recirculate the cooler air within the home so they can guarantee lower temperatures.

Q.    Why don't you put outlets in the entrance or passage areas of the house like some other quotes I have received?

A.    Because they do little to improve the effectiveness of the system.  If the return air grille is located in the passage, the flow of air from the serviced rooms will be enough to provide heating and cooling to these areas.  The reason they are often included on quotes is to upsell and add to the price (and the salespersons commission).

Q.    I have an older home with lath and plaster ceilings, will there be any additional cost?

A.    To prevent damage to older style homes we need to take that extra bit of care and therefore there is small extra cost involved.

Q.    My house is about to be built - can I send you a plan and get a price?

A.    Certainly - just fax or email your plan to us and we will give you a price.

Q.    My builder has offered air conditioning, will your company be any cheaper.

A.    A lot of builders who offer air conditioning add their markup to the price, therefore by dealing direct with us you will save money.  Also we can tailor a system to suit your exact requirements - not use a pre-designed system to suit the plan.

Q.    I've heard that it is double the price to air condition a 2 storey home than a single storey home of the same area.

A.    Providing allowances have been made in the design of the home there is only a small extra cost for 2 storey homes.  It is typically 10-20% more for a 2 storey home.

Q.    I'm am going to add an extension in the next few years, should I wait until it is completed before getting air conditioning?

A.    We can design a system to allow for future expansion at a later date giving you the benefits of air conditioning straight away.

Q.    I've received a quote for a 12.5kW system - does it really use that much power.

A.    The figure quoted is the output capacity of a unit - reverse cycle systems have an efficiency of 300% or more therefore the 12.5kW machine would be using around 4kW at the most.
